Aiming for the moon with MoonStory

Updated: Jan 15

Hi there dear data and design enthusiasts! I’m Elena Drakulevska and I’m thrilled to welcome you to the launch of MoonStory— a space where the magic of data meets the art of (UX) design, and every data visualization tells a unique story.

A Leap into the Unknown

It is said that if we wait for the perfect moment, we might be waiting forever.

2023 was a leap into the unknown speaking world to me, and 2024 is the year when I’m starting this blog, even though I might not have all the answers. But that’s the beauty of it, isn’t it? The uncertainty, the excitement, the journey. MoonStory is born not out of desire for perfection, but out of passion for exploration and commitment to growth.

The Power of Iteration

If I learned anything from the UX Design process (more on it in some future post, so make sure to subscribe) is that you cannot have it perfect right away. And as every report evolves with each feedback and iteration, so do we. This blog is a living testament to the idea that improvement comes through action. We learn, we refine, and we keep moving forward.

Whether you are a beginner navigating the world of Power BI or an experienced analyst seeking fresh inspiration, MoonStory is here to be a guide on your ever-evolving journey.

A Grateful Dedication

Behind every bold step, there’s often support from someone who nudges us beyond our comfort zone and inspires us to reach for the moon. And my support comes in the human-form of my dear friend and mentor, Nikola Ilic (you also might want to check out his blog https://data-mozart.com/). To him I dedicate the beginning of MoonStory.

What to expect

MoonStory embodies the spirit of aiming for the moon, where every data visualization is a shot at achieving something extraordinary. As the saying goes, “Even if you miss, you’re still among the stars”— every effort propels us one step closer to our aspirations.

MoonStory is not just a blog; it’s a journey. Here we will explore User Experience (UX) Design and its principles when it comes to creating reports and data visualizations. We’ll unravel the art of data storytelling, and we’ll learn how to create reports that are not only visually appealing, but also intuitive and accessible to everyone. We’ll also explore some of the latest industry trends and Power BI updates. And I’ll try to share some personal and community stories, experience from conferences, challenges faced, and lessons learned along the way.

So here’s to new beginnings, to embracing the unknown, and to the power of community. Welcome to MoonStory—the story of data, design, and the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. Let’s create amazing (moon) stories together!

P.S. If you are still reading this, I just want to thank you for being here! And also, don’t miss out on any updates—subscribe to get notified and hit a follow on social media.
